Feta turkey burgers take your favourite turkey burger and elevate it with chunks of feta, thyme and lemon for a fresh and delicious grilled turkey burger.

If you’ve ever thought that turkey burgers were bland and boring, you need to try this recipe. These are the perfect flavourful, non-beef burger option for the summer. The onions and ketchup keep the patties moist while the garlic, thyme, lemon and feta add tons of flavour. I also like to add Worcestershire sauce for a hint of extra flavour.
This burger recipe was inspired by my 5 ingredient turkey burgers, I find turkey can be a little bit bland so it’s important to add extra flavour and moisture when you’re making turkey burgers.
Ground turkey is leaner than ground beef, so you’ll often need to add extra fat to your burger–it could be mayonnaise, or turkey or chicken fat for moist turkey burgers. I’m using mayo in this recipe because I don’t have chicken or turkey fat on hand.
Will feta cheese melt in a burger?
Feta cheese is not a melting cheese, so it will hold together in the burger. If you wanted something to melt in your burger, you could opt for a melting cheese like cheddar.
How to keep turkey burgers from falling apart on the grill?
Turkey burgers are leaner so you need to add a bit of fat into the mixture. I don’t like adding breadcrumbs or egg to burgers because I find they end up a little bit more like meatloaf–which is ok if that’s what you’re going for, but that’s not what I like in a homemade turkey burger.
The other key is to make sure your grill is properly oiled and preheated. Turkey burgers will stick to a cold grill.
How to preheat a grill properly so food doesn’t stick?
Once you’ve turned on the grill, oil it with a neutral oil (I typically use canola oil), and preheat it with the lid closed for 10-15 minutes before starting to cook. This is a method that you should use for all of your summer grilling.
Greek Turkey Burgers with Feta
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground turkey
- ½ red onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoon mayonnaise
- zest of 1 lemon
- 1 cup diced feta
Instructions
- Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
- In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients.
- Shape into 8 patties. Using your finger, create an indent in the middle of the burger to avoid the burgers puffing up on the grill.
- Grill for 6-8 minutes per side or until fully cooked.
Notes
Greek turkey burgers with feta are a unique twist on a summer favourite.

Oh my gosh! I was literally planning to make greek-style hamburgers sometime this week! I think you just confirmed it for me. These burgers look FAB, Louisa! Lovin’ all the feta you stuffed inside these babies! GORGEOUS photos per the usual! Pinned.
Lou
That’s so funny, Sarah! I think Greek flavours are pretty big these days. Thank you & let me know if you give them a try!
Helen @ Scrummy Lane
Mmmmm … Lou, now you’re really talking my language with these Greek burgers … I’m totally sure that they’d be a hit with me. They sound so tasty, especially with the feta studded through the burgers.
Interesting thoughts about blog post writing. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with it. On the one hand I dread it because, like you, I always wonder if I’ll have anything interesting to say. Once I get going, though, I love it, especially when I’m not too tired and the ideas start flowing. I try to avoid that ‘sitting in front of the screen with nothing to write’ though by starting to think through what I’m going to write a little bit before I start. I jot down the ideas and then when it’s time to write something I always know what I want to say … sort of! Anyway, really enjoyed this post!!
Lou
Thanks for your comment, Helen. I like the idea of trying to avoid the “sitting in front of the blank screen”, it’s kind of paralyzing, is it not? I’m going to start jotting down ideas on the fly. :)
