I don’t think I’m ever in the kitchen (or anywhere for that matter, I’m a bit of a technology addict) without some form of technology. Whether it’s my laptop, which is a recipe for disaster, or my speakers with music playing, there’s always something there. For the past month or so, I’ve been busy cooking with my trusty little sous-chef, the Google Nexus 7 Tablet. I never thought I’d love cooking with a tablet over my computer, but I’m a complete convert. It’s especially great for following recipes from my favourite blogs and websites.

Here, I’m making my favourite Vegetarian Chili – you can see that the size of the tablet is perfect because it is small and light enough to use with one hand (it only weighs 0.64 lb!). I think everyone can agree that having two free hands in the kitchen is next to impossible, so the fact that this tablet can be used with one hand is ideal for cooking.

I’m a big fan of apps and the Google Play store has all of my favourites, (Songza, Netflix, Pinterest, Flipboard and Instagram). I love taking a quick peak at Instagram while in the kitchen to see what my fellow food bloggers are whipping up. It’s a great way to stay connected with the community – sometimes blogging can be so lonely, but using my tablet has allowed me to keep in touch with all my blogger buds 24/7. There was a bit of a learning curve learning the Android operating system, but before I knew it, I had everything running smoothly and it felt like second nature.

Planning some weekend baking and cooking using the Pinterest app has quickly become my favourite activity during some downtime. I’ve been pinning like crazy recently all thanks to the Nexus 7.

All in all, the Google Nexus 7 has definitely made my time in the kitchen easier, more fun and it’s been great for productivity and multitasking, which at this point, is basically my middle name.

Food for thought

What is your favourite way to use technology in the kitchen? Any favourite apps?

Disclaimer: Staples sent me a Google Nexus 7 tablet to review. I was not compensated in any other way for writing this post – the decision to write about the product was my own and all opinions are 100% mine.

That's like me with my iPad. I actually have a stand for it that props it up while I cook. What a great pic of you. Happy Hump Day!
