I never really understood the point of sliders but after I made these turkey meatball sliders, I am happy to say that I get it. Before I always thought that If I’m going to eat a burger, I want a burger, not a mini-burger. I might not eat the whole thing, but the option is there, and I like options. The first thing about sliders, they are the most adorable thing in the world. Just the tiny little buns alone are enough to get me on board. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to make sliders.
For this slider recipe, instead of making mini burger patties, I opted for meatballs because I find that they naturally lend themselves to slider buns. Basically you just make regular meatballs and serve them in a slider bun. It’s fun and simple. I used a homemade barbecue sauce for the barbecue element of these sliders, but you could also use your favourite store-bought variety. I prefer to use homemade barbecue sauce because I have complete control over all of the ingredients in the sauce. I often find that store-bought barbecue sauces are really high in sugar and lacking in much flavour other than sweetness, so I love to use this rosemary barbecue sauce I developed.
One of the greatest parts about this recipe is that it only uses five ingredients, which is pretty major if you ask me. I’m trying to develop more and more recipes with maximum flavour but minimal ingredients because I feel like those are the recipes that you are looking for. Especially in the summertime when spending a ton of time cooking isn’t the way I want to spend my days. I’m more of a throw together a quick salad kind of girl in the summer than spend hours grilling meat and even though these turkey sliders are not a salad, they are pretty much as easy to make for a quick dinner. Did I mention they only require 5 ingredients?
I’m realizing that summer is kind of misleading, it feels like you will have all the time in the world to do everything, but you don’t. I do think that the extra hours of daylight make a huge difference though, my energy levels are higher and my inspiration is higher but I’m still finding that I’m not able to accomplish everything that I want in a day. I guess it’s the same thing as how you can’t do everything all the time. And as much as I don’t like making decisions, (totally normal for a 20 year old – non?) it makes you figure out your priorities. Which is the silver lining, I suppose. Like right now, enjoying my summer is definitely a priority. I might be a little slower responding to emails, or testing recipes, but it feels right. And if enjoying a summer results in more, fresh and flavourful five ingredient recipes, I think that’s a-ok with me.
